The Passing of Dr Sr. Lina Muppathukalam

E-mail Print PDF

I regret to inform every one that Sr. Lina Muppathukalam( M.C. Elizabeth from the 1966 batch} who belonged to the Holy Cross convent passed away in Kerala. She was the President of the Sisters Doctor Forum until early ths year.May her soul rest in peace and God be with her family and friends  in this time of sorrow.

These were her words in the newsletter put out by the sisters doctor forum

My Dear Sisters,

I am overwhelmed with gratitude as I express my sentiments as outgoing President of the Forum. I am grateful to you for the confidence you had placed in electing me as the President of the Forum. It was most unexpected, but I trusted in Him who can do all things, and I took it as a challenge. God Almighty is to be praised for the marvels He has done for the growth of the Forum during this short span of three years.I could be present only for one AGBM at Bangalore. I cherish the good memories of the same.

I was almost ready with all the preparation for the AGBM in Patna when I was suddenly taken bysurprise with my illness, and I had to start with the treatment.I was hoping to be present at the SDFI AGBM at Hyderabad. But again I had to submit to God’s Holy will by undergoing a second laparotomy.

At the same time, it made me happy that Icould give a short message from Lucknow for the AGBM, thanks to modern technology!I wish to express my sincere thanks to each one of you for your constant support, guidance, encouragement and suggestions in person, by mails, phone calls, and by prayer during all these three years of my tenure in office especially when I was undergoing treatment in Mumbai.

Now we have a full time Coordinator for the Forum. Thanks to the financial assistance fromCMMB through Mrs. Rabia Mathai, its Senior Vice President. We can be proud that our long cherished desire to register our SDFI was fulfilled in Feb 2009. The SDFI web site was opened during the ABGM 2009 with the support of Fr. Saul. We have already published SDFI directorywhich gives us wealth of information on its members with their photograph, bio-data, their specialty, the college where they studied, the number of sister doctors in each congregation, and their regionwise distribution. It was a great task to compile all these data. We place on record the tireless efforts of our coordinators, especially, Sr. Susan MMM, the first one.

The enhanced association and collaboration with CHAI, CBCI Health Commission, CMMB,St. Johns Academy, Caritas, CRS etc. is for greater mutual benefit. The generous help and encouragement from Fr. Sebastian, Fr. Alex, Fr Mathew and Mrs. Rabbia Mathai can never be forgotten. Our Forum is privileged to be a Founder member of AICCARD. It was indeed my great privilege to have represented our Forum at the Workshop organized at Georgetown University,Washington DC in January 2008.

Our sister doctors are actively involved in the RNTCP, Malaria Eradication Program, & Prevention & Control of HIV/AIDS. Our Forum is recognized nationally and internationally.

I congratulate heartily Sr. Lucian, the newly elected President, Sr. Emily, the vice President, Sr. Prema, the secretary & Sr. Betty the treasurer, all of you who stood by me, supported and helped together in all that we could accomplish. As you continue as Governing Board Members, I wish you God’s blessings and all success in taking our Forum forward to greater heights.

Robin Sharma in his The Greatness Guide 2 says, “Leadership occurs in moments of challenge, not during moments of ease.” Each of us, as leader without a title, must rise to that challenge when things don’t go as planned. May our new team prove to be inspiring leaders, and let us cooperate with them and do all we can to make our services more relevant in today’s world.

Dear sisters, each one of us is ‘a Doctor with a difference’ (theme AGBM 2007), in different capacities. What will make us ‘doctors with a difference’ is our deep union with Jesus our Lord and our unshakable trust in His enabling presence.

A last thought, I urge all of you to become life members of our Forum, and attend and actively participate in all its annual regional and national gatherings. This will only serve to boost our energy for the mission, and enrich the sharing of our experience.
