Fr Xavier Barrett,  passed away on 30th December 2012, at the Clergy Home, Katra.
He was born in Jabalpur, on 6th October 1932. He studied philosophy at Ranchi.& was sent to Rome for further studies. He was at St John`s Medical College from from May 1965 to July 1971.In December 1972,  he went to specialise in Ophthalmology.  As a young priest, he was sent out into the wild, remote, tribal mission stations in Central India. On reaching there he realised that what they needed was a priest who could minister to their spiritual needs & a doctor, who could look after them physically. He accepted this responsibility & went on to do Medicine, at St John`s in 1972.
Fr Xavier had a passion for photography. He was a gifted artist & he carved beautifully. He also brought out the best in everyone he met. He loved to travel & loved the simple things in life. Fr Xavier loved life & lived his life to please Christ always. He was a symbol of love, compassion, sharing, giving & touched the lives of all those who knew him. He was content with his life & whatever came his way, in his mission.
Few people knew that Fr Xavier, was the acting Bishop of Jabalpur.for a short period of time from September 1975 to March 1977.
Fr Xavier was so much fun to be with. He was joyful, smiling always, ready to learn something new, without apprehension & generous to a fault ! He was a man who persistently turned the self of his own life & let the Divine power of God, work through him !
May his soul rest in peace.
