As many of you know Dr's Sunita and Brian Pereria funded the renovation of our old mess hall which is now known as the Sunita and Brian Pereria Student Centre at Saint Johns.Besides being a busy neonatologist (Sunita) and a super busy CEO of Vistera (Brian) this couple finds time to make a difference in lives of other people.
Sunita and Brian are Trustees of the American Indian Foundation and have been for the past five years.
The AIF is the world largest diaspora philanthropy and Bill Clinton is the Chair. They raise dollars in the US for social programs in India. Their lead programs are Learning and Migration Program (LAMP), Market Aligned Skill Training (MAST), Digital Equalizer (DE) and more. They have impacted more than 2 million lives over the 10 years since AIF was founded.
The AIF is dedicated to catalyzing social and economic change in India and building a lasting bridge between India and the USA.
In a country where extreme contrasts of wealth and poverty coexist in everyday life, we hear hopeful stories of India’s rise and rapid growth. Yet 800 million people – more than the entire population of Africa – live on less than two dollars per day in India.
Amid the tragic devastation caused by the Gujarat earthquake in 2001, President Bill Clinton recognized the need for a philanthropy platform that would connect the world’s two largest democracies and provide a trusted bridge for meaningful participation in India’s democratic and economic growth for both Americans and Indians. The American India Foundation has since built on this vision and created countless opportunities for India’s poor to live successful, productive lives while creating impactful change at an unprecedented scale, changing the lives of more than 1.7 million of India’s less fortunate.
They have an annual gala in the major cities each year and in Boston, where raise more than $1M each night in each of the cities.
